The Community Service Coordinator assists the sentencing judges to
implement the provisions of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure
whereby criminal offenders placed on probation at either the
misdemeanor or felony level are assigned to the Community Service
Program. This project is designed to instill in probationers a sense
of self worth and community spirit. Additionally, probationers learn
job shills and learn to deal with the root causes of problems which
subject them to possible commitment to the Department of Corrections
or county jail. While enrolled in the Community Service Project,
probationers are required to perform hours of free service to
non-profit entities which serve the general public.
The long
range goal of this program is to help the courts make better use
of the sentencing options and improve the employability of
probationers. The following is a list of some of the referrals
where a probationer might serve:
Beehive Day Care
Senior Citizens Center
Service Clubs and Organizations
Museum of the Plains
Perry Memorial Library
Ochiltree County Exposition Center
Wolf
Creek Park and Lake Fryer
Perryton-Ochiltree Chamber of Commerce
Ochiltree County Courthouse
Ochiltree County Sheriff's Department
Panhandle Crisis Center
Ministerial Alliance
