| The
Ochiltree County Attorney's Office is responsible for prosecuting
juvenile crime. This office reviews cases referred by the Juvenile
Probation Department for legal sufficiency. We conduct detention
hearings to determine whether the child shall remain in custody
pending the adjudication of the charges. Thereafter, we are responsible
for proving the charges filed against the juveniles.
WE REPRESENT
THE STATE AND DO NOT ACT AS PRIVATE ATTORNEYS.
There are
several types of juvenile cases:
Delinquent
acts (acts which would be a criminal offense if committed by an
adult)
Traffic cases
Children in Need of Supervision cases involving habitual truancy,
curfew violations, runaways, or incorrigible conduct
Children in Need of Protective Services cases, where action is
initiated to protect a child's welfare or safety, such as in investigations
of neglect or abuse, or where a family requests assistance.
The Juvenile Division of the County Attorney's office strives
to instill respect for the community, and compassion for victims.
It also strives to reduce juvenile crime and the incidence of
child abuse and neglect by promoting family responsibility and
individual development by vigorously prosecuting repeat offenders.
